Old Dog Charity Surf Comp (September 7): Head to Dixon Park beach to watch the fun of old timers heading back into the surf for a good cause. Newcastle to Dungog Charity Bike Ride (September 21): Take part or cheer on the competitors as they ride 90km from Newcastle to Dungog. Get up early to watch the start from Queens Wharf or take a country drive up to Dungog to welcome them as they arrive at the finish line in Jubilee Park. A great day out for a great cause.
Hunter Valley Balloon Fiesta (October 4 – 7): The annual Balloon Aloft Hunter Valley Fiesta takes to the skies over the Hunter Valley over the October long weekend. Launching each morning at sunrise, upward of twenty-five hot air balloons from all around the country will float majestically over Hunter Valley wine country in an amazing display of colour and excitement.
Newcastle spring music events 2019
Newcastle Country Music Festival (August 31 – September 1): Bringing the country to the city, multi award winning artists will perform their biggest country hits, right on Newcastle Harbour. Headline acts include Hurricane Fall, Viper Creek Band, Bob Corbett and the Roo Grass Trio, Karen Oshea, Lyn Bowtell & Band, Katie Jayne & Band and Catherine Britt.
This That (November 9): A handpicked mix of ‘now’ and ‘it’, This That is a stage extravaganza featuring international and local DJs, bands, musicians and performances. ‘THIS stage’ features live acts crossing musical genres such as Electronica / Hip Hop / Pop and a little touch of rock, while ‘THAT Stage’ showcases DJs and electronica.
Scene and Heard (November 10): Go back in time and savour the music of the 90s and 00s at the Scene and Heard Music Festival. Headlined by Wolfmother, The Dandy Warhols, Eskimo Joe, Alex Lloyd and Jebediah, this event is not to be missed for lovers of the Australian alternative music scene.
Newcastle spring foodie festivals 2019
End 2 End Festival (September 14): Incorporating food, wine, music and more, this event is spread around four venues throughout Pokolbin, involving more than 20 wineries. With shuttle buses moving from venue to venue giving you the opportunity to try everything, there’s no better way to explore Hunter Valley wine country.
Oktoberfest (October 5): Oktoberfest will transform The Station Newcastle with delicious German fare including pretzels, bratwurst, sauerkraut and pork knuckles and, of course, some of the finest imported German beers on offer. Entertainment includes traditional Oompah, live music, DJs, silent disco, sideshow alley, roving entertainers and more.
Bitter and Twisted Boutique Beer Festival (November 2-3): A celebration of music, food and beer, this festival is held in the grounds of Maitland Gaol. Enjoy over 80 craft beers, local live music, food from across the globe, home brew masterclasses plus a few twisted surprises. With ales, IPA’s, porters, stouts and specialty beers on offer, there’s a drop to suit every taste.
